Grateful for Family

Tryingtotagchonefiggins

I just hosted my family here for the past couple of weeks and we had a great time. Who all was here? My Mom, my Dad, my two brothers, my Dad’s cousin from Monterey. My uncle, my aunt, their four kids, another cousin of my Dad’s with their four kids, my grandfather’s sister was here, the only sister left. She was here and I was so happy she was here. All together there was about 25 people.

Some stayed at the Don Cesar hotel and some of them went to Orlando.

Having them around really means a lot. Particularly during tough times, a tough streak. When you’ve got all kind of things in your head. When you leave the stadium and you see your family, personally, me, my mind just changes when I get home. I don’t take baseball home with me.

WithcarlcrawfordSo every day while I was in that slump, I’d come to the field not even thinking about how bad I was doing. I’m just ready to play that day. Whatever happens, happens. When I went 0-for-4, I see my family, I come back and I’m a different person, I’m not upset, I’m not mad. I felt like I know I gave my best.

Over the All-Star break I didn’t have to go to Mexico. Mexico was here with me in Tampa.

I had a great time and they get to see how great the team is doing and how well I’m doing, even though I’m down a little bit right now. I had their support. It just can’t get any better than that.

And of course I got some home cooking. Every morning, I had my eggs. A Mexican dish where dried meat is mixed in with scrambled eggs and a lot of salsa. That’s a lot of love from my Mom. Every morning, my Mom would drive to my appartment and then go back to the Don Cesar.

And my Dad, he’s the kind of person, he doesn’t care where he is, he just wanted to spend time with me and I truly appreciate that. He’d spend the night at my place and we’d talk and talk and talk. And that’s why he’s a big part of it. He always gets me in the right direction. In the right spot. Every step of the way he’s always been there and I’m so grateful for that.

Hola Jorge,
I hope you don’t mind me giving opinions on your game.

1) Patience, you are swinging at balls you shouldn’t be. The game on Saturday you were “fishing” instead of letting the ball go therefore you struck out.(2)It seems like you lost your rhythm similar to when you came off DL. Remember what you did when you came back from DL?

Also I think you do better when you don’t shave.:)

Slumps happen to any player and its those that do their bestthat come out on top.

Since you will be coming to Oakland, let me know if you want me to recommend places that have the best machaca.

Es un placer verte jugar.

George cantu can over come just about any challenge so a mini slump means nothing but a little more hard work. I would have loved to see you as the starting second base in the all star game. I wish you the best always.

Jorge–
The Rays need the future core (Ud., Gomes, Crawford, Navarrito, etc) to keep the faith, play hard and know there are many loyal fans who see you all as the competitive spirit for winning. May now be in Houston, but still follow you guys daily.

Mi amor de mi vida;
Hi baby! Suprised? Well, I know you read these every couple of days, so I thought I would slip a note in from little old me. The past five years I have seen you grow, not only into a wonderful man, but also into a tremendous athlete. Everybody goes through a rough spot in their career. I would call this that you are going through a mere speedbump. It’s so har to compare yourself to last season. Baby, just keep praying and God will continue to bless us, the family, and T mo. ;o) I love you angel, and I can’t wait for you to come home. See you Thursday night! P.S. Que Pachooooooow?

Te Amo Papi!

My husband and I are two of your biggest fans. We saw you on Sunday as we were leaving a movie and were very disappointed that you actually appeared to try to avoid being spoken to. Hola Jorge,
Eres grande, comportate asi.

Tu nuevo amigo,

Roberto

Hey Jorge, I think this may be a blast from the past for you. I stumbled across this blog and thought I say a quick hello. Do you remember the 3 British people you met in Quality Inn in Virginia August 2003? We were students from England doing our internships at Paramounts Kings Dominion. Our names were Natalie, Hayley and Saijal. I think Nat and Hayley went to see you play the next day at the stadium. Back then I think you were playing for Arizona and it is nice to see that you made it big time….anyway…good luck for the future and Il mention this to Hayley and Natalie. Adios

Jorge,

Que onda? Did you forget about us again? Its almost a month since you have updated your blog…

I want to know your feeling about Julio Lugo being traded and also Vinny being released by the Padres.

I hope to meet you when you come this weekend to face my A’s. Hey you might get lucky and face Esteban….

Cuidate y sigue adelante…

D

Saludos Jorge!

Hey Jorge!
Great blog!..as always. Best of luck on the second half of the season! It is a true joy to watch you play this great game! Fortunatly, i am a St. Pete resident so i get to see you in action a lot! And I even got to see you play in Yankee stadium (isnt that where you first debuted?). For my 18th birthday my father took me to newyork city… mainly to go to the devil ray game. It was a blast and like always i enjoyed watching you and the rays play. Even though i was afraid yankee fans would get rowdy if i wore a devil ray jersey to the game, I still represented, wearing your Team Mexico WBC jersey. Luckily no one gave me any comments!

I was very sad that Julio was traded, but it makes me proud and excited to see you takeover and lead the rays lately. I have never seen fans at the Trop more excited to see you leading the march onto the field to start the games.

Baseball is full of failure, and failure is not fun (i hate slumps), but your poise and attitude and constent hard work this year gives me hope and inspiration…Thank You, God Bless, Good Luck, and Go Rays!

Hip Hip! JORGE!

GABY (VERACRUZ, VER)

Yo TE AMO. Work hard get out of this slump. And help out Johnny Gomes. The team is falling apart and someone has to step up and bring it back together. I know you can do that. LETS GO!

Hey Jorge, just wanted to say your one of my most favorite player of all time and i also think that you will become the greatest mexican baseball player of all time, even better than vinny castilla and fernando valenzuela. hope you good luck on your next game. Oh yea one more thing, how about comeing to the chicago cubs?

Hola Jorge,

Me encantas…..come play for the Angels!!

hola jorge, keep on fighting and staying positive, i really think that in 2007 with upton and hopefully delmon young and HOPEFULLY d rays management, the rays post a winning record

Thanks for signing all my pictures!! No other players sign autographs as much as you! It is greatly apprieciated! Good luck against Texas!

jorge:

GABY (VERACRUZ, VER)

What’s up Jorge? I can’t really watch you play much, except when you play vs. Arlington and they broadcast the game cause the Astros aren’t playing, but when I log onto MLB.com I always watch your highlights and I am real amazed that anyone could play defense like you do. I’ve seen people do that before, of course, but you just do it, like, all the time in clutch situations. People always talk about A-rod and Derek Jeter, but they obviously haven’t seen what you do.
Well, hope to see you play in Arlington next year.

Favian (Brownsville)

hey jorge it was nice meeting you over the holidays, hope you have a great season this year keep swinging..rob

Que onda Jorge? My name is Gerardo Garcia I’m from Houston, TX just stopping by to see your page.
